Extinction in biology, is the complete
disappearance of a species. In the past,
extinctions are believed to have occurred
because species were unable to adapt quickly
enough to a naturally changing environment.
Today, most extinctions are due to human
activity. Some species, such as the dodo of
Mauritius, the moas of New Zealand, and the
passenger pigeon of North America, were
exterminated by hunting.
